Raw indigo selvedge, on a 1962 Toyoda shuttle loom.

The W&W Selvedge No. 04 is our most-sold selvedge denim — 14 oz, raw indigo, on the shuttle looms that have been on our mill floor since 1962. The slower pick (compared to a projectile loom) gives the fabric a tighter weave, a more pronounced slub, and a cleaner selvedge ID. It ages the way a heritage denim should: slow, sharp, and uniquely yours.

What makes it different

  • Shuttle-loom woven. 1962 Toyoda G-3 shuttle looms, the same ones used in Japanese selvedge. Slower pick, tighter weave, pronounced slub — and a clean, woven selvedge ID that you can finish into a cuff.
  • 100% Xinjiang long-staple cotton. Extra-long staple (≥ 35 mm) for stronger yarn, fewer slubs in the weft, and a cleaner indigo dye take-up.
  • 14 oz raw indigo, rope-dyed. Rope-dyed indigo (not slash-dyed) for the deep, uneven penetration that fades to a high-contrast blue. Sanforized or raw — your pick.
  • Custom selvedge ID. We can weave your brand's color combination into the selvedge (red/white, gold/black, etc.) at no charge on orders ≥ 5,000 m.
  • Mill-direct pricing. $7.80 – $9.20 / m FOB Shanghai, no trading-company markup. Tier pricing kicks in at 1,000 m.

Who buys it

Premium denim labels (raw & selvedge specialists), heritage workwear brands, Japanese-inspired craft labels, and any brand that wants a mill-direct 14 oz with the hand-feel of a 1960s American selvedge — but on a modern QA platform.

Common questions from B2B buyers

  • Can I get a 30 m sample? Yes. We ship from in-stock indigos within 5 days. Custom lab-dip MOQ is 200 m and ships in 14 days.
  • What's the price difference between raw and sanforized? Sanforized adds USD 0.40 / m and 7 days lead time. Most buyers order raw for heritage denim and sanforized for shirting / outerwear.
  • Can you do a custom selvedge ID? Yes — we weave your brand color (up to 2 colors) into the selvedge. Free on orders ≥ 5,000 m, USD 0.20 / m surcharge below that.
  • Is the indigo pure natural or synthetic? We use 80%+ natural indigo (from Indigofera tinctoria). The 9-dip rope process takes 3 weeks — the reason selvedge ages the way it does.
  • What about recycled selvedge? Yes — same article in GRS-certified recycled cotton, at +USD 0.60 / m. 50,000 m annual capacity.
  • Do you offer CMT (cut, make, trim)? Yes — through partner mills in Suzhou and Ho Chi Minh. We can quote full garment production from the same selvedge. Ask for the CMT pack.
  • What's the warranty? Mill-direct quality guarantee. If a roll doesn't match the lab-dip or the MTC, we replace at our cost — including inbound shipping.
